This study is a translation to David Mamet’s play Oleanna, which was first performed in1992. The play sheds light on changing power relationships between John, a university professor, and his student Carol. Carol is frusterated that she does not understand the material in his class. Therefore, John decides to help her if she returns to his office several more times to discuss the material. However, Carol distorts his statements, and files a formal complaint, accusing him of sexual harassment. The study begins with the translator’s introduction, which deals with the challenges of translation, paying special attention to the influence of language use on increasing the tension between the characters. The play deals with power relations in educational institutions, highlighting the influence of socially and culturally imposed practices that affect the characters’ manipulation of power. It emphasizes the consequences of unequal distribution of power within the academic community and its social, moral, and, cultural dimensions.
